No time for church? Me neither. Well, here’s your religious experience for the day! I’m gonna go out on a limb and insist that this is the best version of
I Shall Be Released. Better than the Band? Yep, though it should be noted I’m not a big fan of the Band. Give me Leroy Sibbles and group, with Lee Perry producing any day.
literally im so not here for people insulting another person’s body no matter how much you hate them all that does is support the idea that you need to be attractive to be valued so don’t do it how is this a hard concept
This is the greatest video ever posted on the internet
Fun Fact: Kittens learn to hunt their prey using their mother’s tail. This is so cute cause this tail is a lot faster than a cat’s tail but the kitten is doing their best. ❤🐈
Cute :)
So what I’m hearing is that training with a dog is going to turn this cat into the APEX PREDATOR
This is completely outside of my self-defined genre restrictions, but I guess I originally bought the 45 because Feargal Sharkey (Undertones) was singing. Underneath the Vince Clarke synth pop is a great pop song; I’ve always thought it would sound great sped up and played with guitars.
Anonymous asked: why do black people use you in the wrong context? such is "you ugly" instead of "you're ugly" I know u guys can differentiate, it's a nuisance
It’s called copula deletion, or zero copula. Many languages and dialects, including Ancient Greek and Russian, delete the copula (the verb to be) when the context is obvious.
So an utterance like “you a bitch” in AAVE is not an example of a misused you, but an example of a sentence that deletes the copular verb (are), which is a perfectly valid thing to do in that dialect, just as deleting an /r/ after a vowel is a perfectly valid thing to do in an upper-class British dialect.
What’s more, it’s been shown that copula deletion occurs in AAVE exactly in those contexts where copula contraction occurs in so-called “Standard American English.” That is, the basic sentence “You are great” can become “You’re great” in SAE and “You great” in AAVE, but “I know who you are” cannot become “I know who you’re” in SAE, and according to reports, neither can you get “I know who you” in AAVE.
In other words, AAVE is a set of grammatical rules just as complex and systematic as SAE, and the widespread belief that it is not is nothing more than yet another manifestation of deeply internalized racism.
This is the most intellectual drag I’ve ever read.
